CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

HAPPY AND HEALTHY SMILES

At By The Lake Dental, our goal is to ensure that the little ones have the most positive dental experiences by creating a comfortable, safe, and respectful environment. It is proven that overall health starts in the mouth, and our team is here to help your child have a healthy mouth, leading to a healthy body. Our facilities are made to take care of the whole family, whether it is the discomfort-free STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia® System), or the Koala Kare Changing station that our restrooms are equipped with. With our state-of-the-art technology and friendly dental team, allow us to keep the procedure efficient, effective and comfortable for your kid.

FIRST TOOTH, FIRST VISIT!

As soon as your child’s first tooth grows, it’s time to book her/him with one of our kids dentists.

It’s recommended to brush twice a day and floss once the teeth are close together (usually age 5-6) or when one of our oral health care providers advises you to do so.

Keep in mind that kids will need your help while they are learning to do this and gaining coordination.

Minimizing sugary foods and drinks will also help keeping cavities away.

SERVICES

At By The Lake Dental we care about your child’s comfort, as well as their dental health and we have practices in place that prioritize both of these.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide or “laughing gas” makes dental procedures much easier for children because of a few reasons:

1. It helps to reduce anxiety, and therefore reduces discomfort. Children will be more relaxed during the procedures

2. It reduces memory during the time it is being inhaled, meaning the children won’t remember the specifics of what procedures happened during their appointment, helping with their peace of mind.

3. It causes time to feel like it is going faster than it really is, meaning the child will feel like they were there for 2 minutes when they were actually there for 30 minutes.

Phase 1 Orthodontics

Phase 1 is pre-braces preparation for kids, as their adult teeth start to grow in. This helps make the braces or Invisalign® process more efficient and effective for your child later on. Phase 1 Orthodontics typically occurs between ages 6-10 as the adult teeth are not fully grown and we are able to help correct problems more easily during the 2nd phase (Braces or Invisalign®) of treatment. Ask us for a free consultation on your next visit to see if Phase 1 Treatment may be right for your child.

Fluoride Treatments

Regular cleanings followed by Fluoride varnish is important to prevents tooth decay, and in some cases, helping to rebuild the tooth enamel.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

One of the products we use for children is called Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF). SDF is an alternative to treat cavities in certain cases, for example, when kids do not cooperate during traditional treatment (fillings). This typically requires 3 sessions. Ask one of our dentists if this is a good alternative for your kid.
