How to Clean Your Invisalign and Retainers
Are you regularly and properly cleaning your retainers and Invisalign trays? Lack of hygiene can lead to a buildup of plaque and bacteria and can affect your oral health.
INVISALIGN CLEANING:
Take your Invisalign trays out each morning and clean both your teeth and the trays very thoroughly. Clean your aligners with a toothbrush. If you are eating with the aligners on, you have to brush your teeth and aligner after EVERY meal. You also should rinse your aligners every time you remove them. This will keep plaque and any dried-on salvia from building up. One more recommendation is to soak your aligners either in a denture cleaner or in Invisalign cleaning crystals at least once a day.
RETAINER CLEANING:
Use a dedicated soft brush and water. After taking it out in the morning, brush both the inside and outside, pat dry and place it back in the lid. If you want an even deeper clean, you can let it soak in white vinegar for about 15 minutes. You should not use toothpaste or let it sit in mouthwash as they can both stain it. You also shouldn’t use denture cleaning materials or soak your retainer in hot water.
